Local Engagement and Innovation

The AIFCC seeks to increase the participation of Afro-descendant leaders in decision making processes related to climate and environmental justice, including consolidating networks and strengthening leadership and scientific capacities to amplify the voices of environmental and social leaders. 

 

  • Expand AIFCC network to include meaningful participation from additional countries with high concentrations of Afro-descendant populations in Latin America. 
  • Create and implement a collaborative agenda for strategic advocacy topics for members of the Leadership Advisory Committee to guide their participation in the main international scenarios and influence international cooperation funds to provide tools and resources to Afro-descendant communities.
  • Highlight the voices and promote the participation of Afro-descendant environmental leaders in the main climate justice and biodiversity events across the globe – including the Biodiversity and Climate Change COPs.
  • Assist AIFCC members with a collaborative agenda for strategic advocacy topics, rapid policy memos, communications and PR support to influence national and regional policy and promote policy changes that support a just implementation of Natural Climate Solutions in Afro-descendant territories.”
  • Create a pipeline of community-based Natural Climate Solution projects with the Local Environmental Leaders Network, providing technical assistance and training in the design and formulation of projects 
  • Mobilize financial resources, and technological, scientific, and community-based planning expertise to support local innovation projects in the area of Natural Climate Solutions.
